Pile Foundations for Off-Shore Structures
The analysis of stresses in the soil surrounding a group of piles is necessary to avoid overstressing the underlying strata and also to compute immediate settlement on loose granular deposits or consolidation settlement in clay deposits. Such an analysis is complex because of the unknown distribution of friction along the length of the pile, overlapping of stresses from adjacent piles, influence of driving the pile and time dependent effects such as consolidation, thixotropy, etc. A simplified analysis is presented for a single pile in an elastic half-space and the results are extended to group of piles using principle of superposition.
