Modelling Tension Stiffening in Reinforced Concrete Structures: Rods, Beams and Disks
One of the important problems in structural concrete mechanics is to determine deflections for a given load. In the early stage of cracking stiffness is highly sensitive to what extent to concrete between the cracks does contribute. This contribution to the stiffness is normally termed tension stiffening. Up to now tension stiffening has been determined by empirical formulas derived from tests. Therefore it is highly important to develop models, the advantage of which first of all is that that may be more easily and safely extended to cases not covered by the tests. Furthermore models enhance our understanding of what is going on in the structure physically. In this report attempts are made to model tension stiffening in some important cases as seen from the practicing engineers point of view.
