Vaegbelaeggningars Halkkaenslighet: Undersoekningar pa E4 vid Nykoeping 1982-1985 (Susceptibility to Icing on Road Pavements: Investigations on the E4 at Nykoeping 1982-1985)
During the winters of 1982/83-1984/85, the VTI's Road Division carried out friction measurements on various wearing courses with the aim of studying their friction in various winter conditions and when deicing measures were implemented. Friction was measured on test sections along the E4 at Nykoping and included wearing courses consisting of dense and open-graded asphalt pavements, slurry sealing, rubber asphalt, Verglimit, and single and double surface dressing. The surface-treated sections were of various ages and textures varying from very coarse to very fine structure were obtained during the period of observation. The report describes the results of friction measurements conducted in varying winter conditions. In many cases, friction has been measured in conjunction with deicing measures, studies being made of the difference in friction before and after these measures. It has thus been possible to obtain some idea of the general slipperiness of the various wearing courses and in particular the influence of texture on slipperiness.
