A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The objective of the project is to evaluate the performance of a foamed asphalt binder, AC-10, in an aggregate bituminous base course. Aggregate bituminous base courses in Pennsylvania are either cold mixed using emulsified asphalts or hot mixed bituminous concrete. The mix used on this project was made by foaming an AC-10 asphalt cement with a blend of crusher run aggregate and screenings. The process uses less energy by using an asphalt cement, aggregate that requires less processing and no heating and drying of the aggregate before mixing. A series of tests was conducted in an attempt to determine tests conditions and values for foamed mixes.
