Cement Hydration and Microstructure at Elevated Temperatures: A Literature Study
This is a report on a review of literature concerning the microstructure of cement pastes at elevated temperatures. The aim of the work is to obtain an insight into the hydration process and how it is affected by elevated temperatures, especially as regards the microstructure. In the study of hydration reaction much insight can be gained by studying the reactions of the individual cement components, i.e. the clinker minerals and gypsum. The reactions and microstructures of the individual major clinker phases are dealt with in detail in the next chapter along with those of Portland cement. Pore structure of cement pastes is presented in the third chapter and concrete and heat treatment is briefly dealth with in Chapter 4. The conclusions of this work are presented in Chapter 5.
