A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
It was an object of the present investigations to illustrate the static behavior of plates composed of thin walled panels of C-shaped cross-section, when they are subjected to diaphragm loading. The most important question was to find out, if it is possible to subject such a plate to a load, which creates shear stresses in excess of the stress, which according to the theory of elasticity gives rise to a shear buckling phenomenon in the webs of the panels. After the appearance of shear buckling in the panels, a continued increase of the load is taken up by the use of a 'postbuckling range', i.e. a so called tensile field is created. The investigation included experiments on test plates as well as the development of a model for calculations.
