A nation-wide survey of indoor climate in Swedish residential buildings has been carried out (the ELIB study). Almost 20,000 residents in more than 3,300 single- and multi-family houses have participated in a postal questionnaire survey. Detailed technical inspections on site and indoor climate measurements have also been carried out in a sub-sample consisting of more than 1,100 single- and multi-family houses. The measurements include ventilation rates, indoor temperatures, relative humidity of indoor air, and levels of formaldehyde, volatile organic compounds and radon. The survey gives strong evidence that Sweden is confronted with health problems related to indoor climate which affects many residents. (author) figs., tabs., 77 refs
