The Compaction of Soil and Rock Materials for Highway Purposes
This report is limited to the consideration of untreated soil and rock materials. Consequently, this report considers only the compaction of granular bases, select subbases, subgrades, embankments and backfills. The requirements of the compacted material in each layer will differ with the function of each layer of the pavement sections. For example, the main consideration for granular bases will be the response to the applied traffic loads, whereas the main consideration in embankment materials will be the weight of the overburden and the environmental conditions.
