Quest for Performance-Related Specifications for Hydraulic Cement Concrete
Problems associated with quality assurance for hydraulic cement concrete are reviewed and the importance of good inspection stressed. It is concluded that acceptance procedures based on statistical probabilities are first step towards attaining specifications optimally related to performance. The report summarizes specifications of several agencies using statistical probabilities and recommends changes in specifications of Virginia Department of Highway and Transportation to implement acceptance of concrete based on a statistical quality level for strengths and entrained air content.
