Fracture and Crack Growth in Concrete: A New Approach to Predict Crack Propagation Behaviour
This report presents a newly developed crack growth model based on an energy criterion. The model is able to predict crack propagation, loading and deformation in mode I fracture. The crack propagation formula is a first order differential equation. The energy changes required may be determined using simple linear elastic finite element methods. The nonlinearity is taken into account using Irwins crack length correction. The basis method for determining crack growth, loading and deformation by the formula is presented in the report.
