Shoreline Change Rate Estimates: St. Johns County, June 2000
St. Johns is a large coastal county that encompasses a full spectrum of beach conditions. There are beaches that are eroding, beaches that are accreting, and beaches that are relatively stable. A variety of sand types are present throughout the county. The largest problem area is centered around the St. Augustine Beach revetment. Beaches to both sides are highly erosive, and the revetment itself is frequently damaged by storms. A major change in the form of a large scale beach nourishment is planned. The Corps of Engineer's estimated project nourishment interval is five years.
