Phase 2 Archeological Investigations for the Cumberland Gap Tunnel Project (CUGA 25E4 and 25E9), Cumberland Gap National Historical Park; Bell County, Kentucky; and Claiborne County, Tennessee
The report contains the results of the archeological investigations conducted at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park from November 8 through 15, 1989. These investigations were of proposed construction areas associated with the construction of the US 25E tunnel through Cumberland Gap. Three archeological sites were recorded as a result of these investigations. CUGA-54 (15Bl172) is former late nineteenth/early-mid twentieth century house site. CUGA-55 (15Bl173) is the location of the former Cumberland Mountain Hotel. CUGA-56 (15Bl174) contains a prehistoric site and a late nineteenth/early twentieth century house site with no standing structures. None of these sites appear to be potentially eligible for inclusion to the National Register of Historic Places.
