The photovoltaic power systems were installed in September in FY1994 in Tokyo Hikarigaoka sporting facilities, and the field tests have been conducted, to investigate applicability of the system to sporting facilities. Described herein are the results of the field tests conducted in FY1995, following those in FY1994, for its demonstrated applicability. The sporting facilities are very large in scale, having a 24-story office building, a 2-story building for sporting facilities, a 6-story hotel building and a common and large-space atrium. The photovoltaic system, installed on the 2-story building, provides power for various purposes, including illumination, air-conditioning and driving various devices. It is integrated into a low-voltage line of 20kW with reverse flow. It produces a maximum output of 21.45kWp, the array consisting of 15 (series) by 22 (parallel) single-crystalline modules, directed to due south at an elevation angle of 20(degree). If demonstrated commercially viable, a photovoltaic power system can be integrated into a building adjacent to an office building in the planning stage, to greatly reduce the construction cost. The photovoltaic power systems have good PR effects, because a total of approximately 160,000 people can annually use the sporting facilities, including the office and hotel, and there are Hikarigaoka apartment complex (having 38,000 residents) and 50,000 local residents around the sporting facilities.
