Tensile Capacity of Welded Shear Studs
The ability of shear studs to transfer vertical tension forces from a fractured girder to intact bridge components was investigated. The effect of haunches in the deck, stud length, number of studs, and arrangement of the studs was evaluated in static and dynamic tests. Revised stud strength provisions were developed, which included the effect of a haunch upon stud capacity.
