A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The available information on the introduction of telematics for urban functions is summarized. Some urban services are supported or supplied by telematics. The knowledge available about the temporal and spatial effects is gathered. These effects are transposed to other comparable functions and services. The temporal and spatial effects for the different urban functions are described. A first indication is given of the impact on the location in the dwelling and the neighborhood. The concentration of telematics in the neighborhood center results in three types: specialized, multi-purpose and supportive centers. The tele-activities, consisting of the most detailed level of telematic services, can be divided into five types: productive, domestic, supportive, recreational and other tele-activities. The compatibility in time and space receives specific attention. This results in a first attempt of spatial organization for dwellings and neighborhood center, by showing the position of the various performing places by means of organizational schemes including traditional activities. This is made in the final chapter.
