Performance Evaluation of Bridges with Fiber Reinforced Composite Decks
This study was designed to evaluate the performance of a composite bridge deck by comparing deflections under load with the same measurements made on a conventional reinforced concrete bridge deck subjected to the same loads. This was to be accomplished by (1) evaluating the structural properties of the composite deck system in laboratory load tests, (2) instrumenting specific locations on both the composite and reinforced concrete decks to evaluate the structural response to traffic loads and environmental conditions (3) taking measurements of the bridge decks during controlled loading as well as normal traffic loads, (4) using the data collected to assist ODOT in the development of recommendations for the use of composite bridge deck components.
