Tensile Strength of Off-Axis Unidirectional Composites
This investigation was designed to relate the strength of the lamina, or rectangular plate elements, considered to be dependent on voids, viewed here as tiny cracks, to the fracture toughness of the material. A linear elastic fracture mechanics analysis was used which focuses attention on the region surrounding the crack tip. The fracture strength of the composite is described in terms of the applied stress, the crack length, and stress intensities in the crack tip region. (Author)
