European Standards for Automatic Sprinklers
European Automatic Sprinkler Standards were developed by the Comite Europeen des Assurances, and international association of insurance organizations of Western Europe, based on a detailed analysis of reliable fire statistics on sprinkler-protected property over an extended period and the results of practical, full-scale, fire tests. Sprinkler requirements involved in the use of new materials, new processes, and new storage techniques are determined by expert judgement. These sprinkler rules of the insurance organizations are widely used by fire brigades and other public safety authorities. The pragmatic European approach to sprinkler design should be of use in the evaluation of US experience design and for comparison. Units of interest are given in both metric and English systems.
