Methods and Costs of Coal Refuse Disposal and Reclamation
The Bureau of Mines is active in programs pertaining to solid waste disposal and land reclamation. The purpose of this report is to provide information on the procedures, costs, and results obtained from reclamation projects of bituminous coal-waste disposal areas. Nine reclamation projects of private companies and six projects of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania were investigated. The best results were obtained by soil preparation and conditioning prior to planting. The type and depth of soil, and effect of climate were also factors. (Modified author abstract)
