An Investigation of the Feasibility of Developing Low-Cost Housing for American Indians (Rosebud Transitional Housing Program)
The Rosebud Transitional Housing Program was a multi-purpose program focusing on new housing for low-income Indian families. During the Program's 23-month tenure the Rosebud Sioux Tribe constructed 375 low-cost houses, created a new, local home-building industry, provided new or improved skills for almost 200 reservation residents, and developed new local institutions in all 21 communities. In cooperation, the Public Health Service completed or initiated construction of water and sewer facilities in these same communities.
