The report presents statistics on housing and household characteristics for the St. Louis metropolitan area from the 1991 American Housing Survey Metropolitan Sample. The American Housing Survey was conducted by interviewers who obtained information from occupants or, in the case of vacant units, from informed persons. The metropolitan area covered in the survey was represented by a sample of 3,583 designated housing units. The sample size was divided between the central cities and the balance of the respective area, based on the proportionate distribution of all housing units in the entire area.
