A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This report presents the results of an engineering condition survey and structural investigation of Marsh Arch Bridge over the Republican River at the west side of Fort Riley, Kansas. A visual inspection of the bridge with special attention given to concrete cracking, spalling, and deterioration was performed. Fourteen concrete core samples were taken and laboratory tests were performed to determine the cause and extent of deterioration and to obtain mechanical properties necessary for stress analyses. Detailed stress analyses were performed to determine the stress conditions in the bridge. Based on the results of this investigation, it can be concluded that the bridge is in an advanced state of deterioration and any practical repairs will not be economically feasible.
