Empowerment Opportunities for Youth and Families. Final Report. National Youth Summit. Held in Washington, DC. on February 24-26, 1992
The National Youth Initiatives Summit, held February 24 to 26 at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Washington, D.C., marked the beginning of a new wave in 'from the ground up' action. The conference brought together more than 200 public housing advocates, national resident leaders, youth, and government officials. It was made possible through the united efforts of eight Federal agencies. Summit participants included resident, youth, and civic leaders from Washington, D.C., and 13 cities across the country, including Boston, Massachusetts; Chicago, Illinois; Corpus Christi, Texas; Detroit, Michigan; Ft. Myers, Florida; Los Angeles, California; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mobile, Alabama; New Orleans, Louisiana; New York, New York; Omaha, Nebraska; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and St. Louis, Missouri. During their 3 days in Washington, D.C., summit participants were asked to share examples of innovative locally based programs and prescribe solutions to the crises in America's public housing.
