Irrigation Water Management Study of the San Luis Valley, Colorado
The study was concerned with the following problems, all related to irrigation and drainage: High water losses due to seepage and deep percolation in the coarse textured soils; Water losses and low use efficiencies due to inadequate irrigation facilities; Areas with high water tables needing drainage; Existing drainage systems needing improvement; Need for improving overall water supplies to permit more acres to be adequately irrigated; Need for improving on-the-farm irrigation through leveling, better irrigation methods, and improved facilities; Need to salvage water from tributary streams now lost by percolation into deep sandy soils; and Need for small water storage reservoirs on tributary streams.
