National Dam Inspection Program. Stanford Avenue Stormwater Retention Pond (NDI Number PA-01146, DER Number 6-467), Delaware River Basin, Tributary to Wyomissing Creek, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Phase I Inspection Report
The pond and dam which are owned by the Township of Spring, are used to control stormwater runoff. The main embankment is in good condition with the exception of the vegetation on the crest which is in poor condition. The dike is considered to be in poor condition and the spillway is considered to be in good condition. It is recommended that the following measures be undertaken as soon as practical: (1) The downstream slope and crest of the dike should be repaired and stabilized to prevent further deterioration; (2) The sand and crushed stone should be removed from thee drain outlets. The drains should be monitored after the embankment has retained a significant head of water to verify that the material observed does not represent a migration of materials from beneath the spillway; (3) The gullies at the downstream junction of the embankment and left abutment should be repaired. The embankment crest should be reseeded; and (4) Consideration should be given to installing a trash rack at the low level outlet in the event that the fence should fail during a large storm permitting large debris to enter the reservoir area.
