A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The report alerts those concerned with redevelopment to the susceptibility of buried construction materials to attack by, and degradation from, aggressive conditions, particularly those resulting from former industrial site use. Principal aggressive chemical compounds are listed and related to conventional construction materials used underground. Some industrial sources of these chemical compounds are given, and potential construction and durability problems are identified. Design procedures which can be adopted are also outlined.
