Mile 6 to Mile 65 Richardson Highway, Project F-071-1(2), (8), (18), and (19), Alaska
The subject project is planned to reconstruct the Richardson Highway between Mile 6 and 65 to modern highway standards. Presently, this portion of the Richardson is sufficiently below standards with respect to width of driving lanes, steep grades and sharp curvature as to have many built in hazards. It is anticipated that the Richardson Highway will receive much use by heavy trucks and equipment once the building of the Trans-Alaska pipeline begins. Under the present sub-standard condition such heavy use of the highway will be a safety hazard to the Driving Public. It is planned to realign, lower grades, eliminate some sharp curvatures and to lessen the degree of curve of others. The roadway section will be 36 feet wide which will provide for 12 foot driving lanes and 6 foot paved shoulders. A summary is included of adverse and beneficial environmental effects.
