Cement-grouted macadam (CM) is applied by spreading a wet mix of cement over a well-compacted layer of crushed aggregate which is then lightly vibrated so that it penetrates and fills the voids in the compacted layer of macadam. Experiences of CM roadbases have shown good bearing capacity and few reflection cracks. Development work has consisted of laboratory tests and construction of two test sections/surfaces. The consistancy is an important quality in a CM grout. The authors have found that with the aid of a superplasticizer agent a both homogeneous and fluid grout can be achieved. The requirement of consistancy should be set so that a spreading of 800 mm (without 15 pulses) is fulfilled. The strength of the grout should be at least 15 MPa (150 mm cube). With this compressive strength, a good filling ratio and an unchanged matrix of crushed aggregate, excellent bearing capacity are obtained.
