Use of Silane to Reduce Stripping in Asphalt Pavements
The objectives of the report are to more accurately assess the practicability of using silane to help reduce stripping in asphalt highways. Specifically, the report will address the following issues: (1) the effect of moisture in/on the aggregate on the bonding of asphalt to the aggregate, (2) the effect of weathering on the silane-treated aggregate prior to the addition of the asphalt, (3) the impact of heat on the silane-treated aggregate prior to the addition of asphalt, (4) the value of silane treatment of recycled asphalt pavement, (5) the ability of microorganisms to decompose silane.
