The Aerodynamic Stability of the Proposed Western-Scheldt Suspension Bridge
The flutter stability of a suspension bridge deck and the wind induced response of the pylons were studied in a wind tunnel. For the flutter predictions, aerodynamic derivatives were measured using an oscillating bridge deck model. Flutter calculations based on these derivatives result in an aerodynamically unstable bridge deck. The predicted response of the pylon is acceptable.
