Laboratory Evaluation of Shrinkage Compensating Cements
The study evaluated the physical characteristics of shrinkage compensating cement concrete and of portland cement concrete, comparing both with or without water reducing additive, and with or without steel reinforcement. The laboratory tests showed that a loss in slump and lower resistance to salt scaling were evident when comparing shrinkage compensating concrete with portland cement concrete. It is recommended that shrinkage compensating cements be used when drying shrinkage is a problem, but that its use be limited in areas where the potential for salt scaling is high. (Author)
