The proposal covers construction of a four-lane divided highway from Shiprock, New Mexico, easterly to the west city limits of Farmington, New Mexico. Alignment generally follows existing alignment of U.S. 550 and will replace this facility. Some deviations from existing U.S. 550 are discussed. Construction will originate in the Navajo Indian Tribal Reservation and will be contained in this reservation for approximately 8.3 miles. Construction is all contained in San Juan County, and the total length is approximately 26.4 miles. Proposed work is divided into five construction projects.
