Performance Testing of Crumb Rubber Modified Hot Mix Asphaltic Concrete

Crumb-rubber is typically used to improve the durability of hot-mix asphalt concrete. Although hot-mix asphalt concrete containing crumb-rubber has been successfully placed and has performed well over the years, the performance evaluation of these mixes has been an elusive task. Hamburg Wheel Tracking Device Test or static creep tests, typically specified by Texas Department of Transportation, have not been able to consistently predict the performance of these mixes. Various performance tests were selected and evaluated using four mixes containing crumb-rubber to recommend a suitable performance test for these materials. The experiment design and evaluation tests results are presented in this report.
