For purposes of this analysis, the HMA is divided into three submarkets: The Boston-Suffolk County submarket is coterminous with Suffolk County and includes the city of Boston, the North Shore submarket comprises Essex and Middlesex Counties, and the South Shore submarket consists of Norfolk and Plymouth Counties. The HMA is home to 56 institutions of higher learning that enroll more than 250,000 students.
