A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism

The application of architectural photogrammetry to the restoration of historical buildings is described, with a view to data collection for the Dutch historical city atlas. A literature study on restoration and architectural photogrammetry is presented. The accuracy of point determination was examined on the basis of simulated computations and photogrammetric measurements in photographs. It appears that in the case of a closed triangulation around a building control points do not have to be determined on every facade. The relative accuracy of the stereoscopic point determination of points on the building per facade is +/- 4 mm which is sufficient for architectural quality control. The estimated time required for a detailed photogrammetric survey of the entire selected test building is five weeks, assuming that about 30,000 have to be measured.
