Design of Dams for Mill Tailings
The report describes tailings disposal problems at mines throughout the United States in order to identify design principles that can be applied to all types of dams for mill tailings. The circular reviews computer programs for stability analysis and phreatic waterline estimation, and presents the Bureau of Mines recommendations for constructing effective, long-lasting tailings dams suitable for abating air and water pollution.
