Emergency Locator Transmitters: An Overview
The report includes a review of emergency locator transmitter (ELT) problems and efforts to solve these problems, and a survey of the current situation. Statistical data from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center for 1975 and 1976 is used in this study. Numerous discussions were held with a substantial segment of the ELT and search and rescue community, including those organizations specifically addressing the current ELT problems. Further, an intensive review of the ELT resource literature was completed, including technical papers, general articles, and communications from many of those organizations concerned with the ELT and search and rescue.
