Geo Engineering: A Vision for the 21st Century
This report, Geo-engineering: A Vision for the 21st Century, documents recent actions by acknowledged U.S. experts in the geo-engineering related disciplines of civil engineering to define the role of geo-engineering and geo-engineering in the 21st Century Approximately 50 of the nation's industry academic, and public sector leaders met for a two-day synthesis session held at the Xerox Document University in Leesburg, Virginia. There, they addressed issues such as: (1) who are geo-engineers; (2) where should geo-engineering be in the larger civil engineering achieve the desired goals. From these discussions, a geo-engineering action plan that focuses on identity education, research, contracting/procurement, and advancing the state of the art and improving the state of practice was developed. In addition, recommendations were made to expand the action plan so that it is international in nature. Participants debated formation of an integrating organization to begin implementation of the geo-engineering action plan. The report recommendations include convening an expanded international workshop within the next 12 months. (MM).
