Housing Construction and Rural Settlement: A Descriptive Bibliography
The purpose of the work has been to review current literature and obtain an overview of the state of knowledge in matters relating to settlement in the countryside and outside areas covered by local area detailed development plans or building plans. Two Norwegian and thirteen Swedish studies, concerning two Norwegian and fifteen Swedish municipalities or local districts, have been selected for closer examination. Interest has been focused on (1) which households settle in rural areas, their motives for and ways of settling (2) municipal motives for permitting/discouraging settling, regulation measures employed and the effects of regulation measures, (3) cost/consequences to households, municipalities and the State. Also of interest has been what factors should be taken into account when assessing the consequences of rural settlement.
