Time Dependent Characteristics of GRP/Plastics Foam Sandwich Beams
The aim of this work was to observe GRP/foam sandwich constructions under sustained loading conditions and to relate this behaviour to the properties of the constituent materials. In particular, the time dependent behaviour of a sandwich beam of p.v.c. foam/GRP (fabric) under sustained three-point loading was investigated. The measured strains were compared with those predicted theoretically from the properties of the constituents and, in the case of three beams with different shear/bending components, reasonable agreement was found.
