Design of Low Energy Houses with Lightweight Walls and Roofs in Severely Cold Climates
The main structural type of lightweight curtain wall for housing construction was recently specified on the basis of the research results, design studies and experimental building construction, and with due regard to international experience. In the USSR this type of construction consists of a framed panel with cladding of flat asbestos cement sheets and thermal insulation of semi-rigid mineral wool slabs manufactured according to standards. Other types of lightweight wall panels have also been developed. Tests regarding the thermal performance of the panels and their joints have been carried out. Swedish design of lightweight wall panels has been studied and examined. The paper deals with the results of the work done by the Swedish and Soviet experts within the framework of the joint program.
