Behaviour of Piles Adjacent to Tunneling Operations
In this paper, a two-stage approach is used to analyze the lateral and axial responses of piles due to tunnelling. Firstly free-field soil movements are estimated based on empirical and analytical methods, and secondly, these estimated compute the pile reponses. Results of analyses of simple cases show that tunnelling may have appreciable impact on, and cause serious damage to, adjacent piled foundations.
