Land Use Throughfares, Community Facilities, Housing Neighborhoods, Downtown
The document contains the preliminary report for each of five subjects. An analysis of existing land use data by census tracts was made and projections of future land use requirements by land use categories were determined and related to future population as set forth in the economic base study. The existing pattern of right-of-ways and pavement widths were examined as well as present traffic volumes, terminal facilities, and data developed in the Amarillo urban transportation plan of 1964. Based upon future land use requirements and population distribution, modifications were recommended for thoroughfare pavement standards and throughfare alignments as presented in the urban transportation plan. Probable future school sites were determined as related to the distribution of future population. An analysis was made by neighborhood areas of the physical condition of housing as determined from field survey and recommendations to improve present conditions were made for each neighborhood unit. The central area of the city was examined in terms of land use, parking requirements, access and traffic flow. A basic plan was developed for conversion of street space in the principal retail area into a pedestrian mall with pedestrian accessways to public buildings and facilities. (Author)
