A Longshore Current Model
A relatively simple analytical model for the wave induced longshore current has been developed. The model is a modification of the model proposed by Longuet-Higgins with the major modification being a more realistic treatment of the bottom shear stress as a nonlinear process. Since the model is to form the basis for the prediction of longshore sediment transport, a realistic treatment of the bottom friction appears worthwhile. The distribution of sediment transport rate with distance from shore as well as the total rate of transport would be obtained as a function of wave characteristics, beach slope and sediment characteristics.
