Stemwall Foundations for Residential Construction
Funded as part of HUD's effort to research innovative and cost-saving methods and materials for housing construction, this report provides guidelines for the design of concrete stemwall foundations, the walls of which are built directly on the soil without a separate spread footing. The technical findings of the report were derived from study of demonstration homes that employed stemwall designs. Cost savings and potential problems associated with stemwall designs are also discussed.
