Maintenance Dredging and Jetty Repair, Hampton Harbor, New Hampshire
The project proposes, removal of sand bar across the outer portion of the entrance channel, and rehabilitation of north jetty at Hampton Harbor. Project operation is for FY 73, and removal of outer sand bar on an annual basis thereafter. Approximately 5-8 days are needed to complete removal of 10,000 cubic yards of shoal sand, plus jetty repair. It is proposed that a Government-owned sidecast dredge be used for this dredging operation. The remainder of the Federal channel will be dredged as needed (approximately every 5-7 years) by contract. Environmental impacts: Enables continued safe passage of recreational and commercial vessels through Hampton Harbor inlet. Adverse environmental impacts: Temporary, localized damages to the marine biota, particularly non-burrowing, benthic forms, attributable to dredging and spoiling operations. No lasting detriments to the ecology or beaches of Hampton Harbor area are foreseen.
