Field Measurements of the Effect of Plastered Lightweight Masonry Inner Leaves on the Sound Insulation of Plastered Brick and Dense Blockwork Party Walls
This report assesses the evidence for adverse effects on sound insulation from using plastered masonry inner leaves of mass less than or equal to 115kg/square meters and identifies other factors influencing the sound insulation of party walls. The emphasis is on whether lightweight masonry inner leaves reduce performance. Plastered brick and dense blockwork party walls are considered individually as these are identified separately in the Building Regulations. The performance of party walls varies according to whether they are finished with plaster or dry lining. This report is restricted to plastered walls. Results are compared with data obtained earlier from party walls with different external wall conditions.
