The report presents the result of calculations of shielding factors that have been performed for typical houses (appartment buildings and one family houses) in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. A computer model developed at Risoe National Laboratory, Denmark has been used. The situation when radioactive materials are deposited on the walls and roof of the house as well as on the ground surrounding the house, has been considered. It appears from the report that the shielding factors can vary considerably with house type. In many cases the variation in total individual and collective radiation doses will be proportional to the shielding factor. (Atomindex citation 14:783383)
