A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
An urban renewal demonstration project was concerned with community revitalization through the systematic design, production and utilization of 'street furniture': equipment used for street lighting, traffic control and guidance, trash collection and communications. Performance standards for each component were researched and formed the basis for design and development of an integrated street furniture system. Prototypes were installed in an on-going urban renewal project in twelve blocks of downtown Cincinnati. A major structural solution called the 'multi-purpose pole' proved effective as a matrix to support and organize other inter-related units.
