Deteriorated Concrete in North Platte River Project Substations
Inspection of several electrical substations of the Bureau of Reclamation shows concrete in various stages of deterioration from severe to slight cracking. Concrete cores obtained from visibly deteriorated foundations at Bridgeport and Sidney, Nebr, and Laramie, Wyo, show damage from a variety of causes. Bridgeport deterioration is attributed principally to fire damage. Sidney concrete is seriously deteriorated, badly cracked, and crumbly. In the absence of complete construction records, inadequate inspection and poor-quality workmanship are the suspected causes. Concrete in Laramie Substation is deteriorating from alkali-silica aggregate reaction. (Author)
